Richmond repossessions way up.

Lenders have stepped up repossessions of houses in the Richmond metropolitan area, taking ownership of 334 houses in March, up from 154 in the same month a year ago, according to a report being released this morning by RealtyTrac, an online researcher of foreclosures.

VCU raises tuition by 24 percent for in-state undergrads

Virginia Commonwealth University’s board of visitors today approved a 24 percent increase to tuition and fees for in-state resident undergraduates. The $1,700 increase will raise the cost of attending next academic year to $8,817 for in-state students. Out-of-state undergraduates will pay $1,200 more, increasing their tuition to $21,949.

Va. sets free fishing days

NEWPORT NEWS—The first weekend in June has been declared free fishing days in Virginia. Virginia Marine Resources Commission head Steve G. Bowman says state licenses won’t be required June 4 through June 6 for recreational fishing in saltwaters and freshwaters, except in designated trout waters. But fishing regulations will remain in effect.

White House says BP will pay cost of oil cleanup

WASHINGTON—The Obama administration says the cost of cleaning up a giant oil spill off the Gulf of Mexico will fall on BP Plc, the company that operated the rig. White House spokesman Nick Shapiro says President Barack Obama has directed his administration to aggressively confront the oil spill.
